EcolightingUK helps MAN Truck & Bus UK reduce lighting costs by over 60%

MAN Truck & Bus UK offers a comprehensive range of commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and industrial engines to transport operators and companies in the UK.  It is an organisation committed to quality engineering and technological excellence at all times.

Already on the front foot in terms of improving the energy efficiency of the property portfolio, Property Manager Tracy Lister, who had previously engaged Ecolighting UK to assist with the upgrade of the lighting at Swindon HQ, awarded a multi-site contract to Energy-efficient lighting specialist EcolightingUK, to supply and install their energy saving light fittings into a total of ten of its wholly owned regional Branches.

The brief was to provide a full all inclusive project managed service from consultation to supply, fit and warranty, MAN Truck & Bus UK chose EcolightingUK as their preferred supplier & installer to best deliver their requirements.

The initial brief and aims of the project were as follows:-

  • Reduce energy usage, waste and cost;
  • Reduce on-going maintenance & repairs;
  • Improve the standard of lighting and increase welfare & working conditions;
  • Ensure continued long term Health & Safety;
  • Exceed the companies environmental commitment;
  • Utilise the current government backed tax efficient ECA scheme.
  • Identify other cost saving opportunities


The Specific lighting requirements for each MAN Truck & Bus UK site was as follows:-

  • To change completely all the existing inefficient light fittings;
  • Provide LED Fittings to the office and workshop areas and T5 Fluorescent fittings with PIR occupancy to all other areas.;
  • Min 5 year warranty on all products;
  • To exceed the CIBSE min light level requirements;
  • Full WEEE compliance.

For consistency, 5 key products were used throughout the implementation:-

PEGASUS LED Multibay – Workshop areas

APPOLLO  LED Tri-Proof – Workshop pits

TAURUS LED panel – Office areas

IMPERVIOUS  T5 – Stores

AQUARIUS & ATLANTIS Floodlights – External

James Gunn, Purchasing & Facilities Manager, calculated that these savings are expected to deliver approximately £200k P/A once installed.

A programme of works has been established with the installations across all the sites due for completion by the end of March  2016.

MAN Truck & Bus UK operates with a responsible commitment to the environment, and as part of this aims to reduce its energy usage on a year-by-year basis.

The sites will all benefit from significant energy savings, reduced carbon emissions, superior lighting levels, an enhanced working environment and improved health and safety, additionally reduced maintenance costs are also a huge benefit.
